Julia Stone's vintage frocks at Sew & Tell!

Yes! Brace yourself vintage fans...we have just had confirmation that much of Julia Stone's awesome collection of vintage gear will be for sale at Sew & Tell presents A Very Crafty Christmas! 

Here's what Miss Stone had to say about it. "At Sew & Tell I'm selling a handpicked selection of vintage dresses that I collected from my travels across the globe and that I've worn at a bunch of my shows. I'm thrilled to give them a new life and audience."

Julia would, of course, have loved to work the stall herself but she'll be in Sydney playing at Homebake that day, so some of her friends have stepped in to help her out. They'll be operating the stall for her.

Rum Balls

For me (Gabe), Rum Balls are the taste of Christmas. I love them but I never have them at any other time of year. They are a special Christmas treat. This is my Mum's recipe...

8 Weetbix

1 tin condensed milk

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 cup mixed fruit

2 tablespoons of rum (or more if you want)

Crumble the Weetbix and mix all the other ingredients with it. Place in the fridge for about 1/2 an hour. Make into balls and roll in coconut. Keep in the fridge.

Gabe and I decided over the weekend (with a belly full of delicious food from Rock and Roll cafe in Mullumbimby) that we would love to blog about all things Christmas in the lead up to Sew and Tell presents A Very Crafty Christmas. Cute ideas, recipes, things to make.....

So here's my first idea to pretty up your Christmas lunch table. I'm pretty obsessed by edible flowers at the moment. Not only do they look divine, they also taste lovely. Freeze them in ice cubes and serve with the drink of your choice (punch or scotch). Yum yum!

Sample Food Festival

Today the annual Sample Food Festival is on at the Bangalow Showgrounds. Sample showcases local food producers, restaurants and catering companies.

What an amazing event! So many delicious things - organic nuts, the famous Bangalow pork, fruits, insanely fresh and delicious looking salad vegetables, seafood, spices, coffee beans...good stuff in every direction!

We’re back! After a super successful inaugural event earlier this year Sew & Tell will once again take over Bangalow’s beautiful A & I Hall from 9.00am to 1.30pm on Saturday 8 December.

With the original bearded hipster set to visit just a few weeks later, Sew & Tell is the place to find the perfect gift for those that have been naughty or nice!

Organisers Tory Bauer and Gabe Cramb said “We are curating this edition of Sew & Tell with the festive season in mind and everything that goes along with it. Handmade and vintage gifts are unique. They are special. You feel good giving them.”

Yes, Sew & Tell presents A Very Crafty Christmas will be jam packed with one of a kind gifts for family and friends. There will be a diverse array of crafty goods for sale including everything from handmade journals, children’s clothes and home-wares, textiles, stenciling and felting to applique, painting, jewelry, handmade cards and wrapping paper, and sew much more.

As well as craft there will be vintage clothes, retro wares, nic nacs, records and a few additional blokey stalls to find that special something for the fellas.

Sew & Tell presents A Very Crafty Christmas will also see the return of some of the special stalls that were so popular at the first event.  Sew & Tell is not like other markets. Oh no we’re not! It’s about connecting people and getting the public involved!

UNFINISHED BUSINESS 
Do you have any craft projects that you are not likely to finish any time soon? Like that Jenny Kee style jumper you have been trying to finish since the 80’s? Why not put them up for adoption on our Unfinished Business table? Just bring them along to Sew & Tell.

All items on the unfinished business stall are free and you don’t have to return to sender. All you have to do is promise to finish them off. We’d also love it if you could post a pic of the finished item on the Sew & Tell Facebook page.

THE FREE STALL
The Free Stall was super popular at our first event and spread masses of goodwill around so we’re doing it again. Bring along any items that you’d like to donate - fruit, vegetables, herbs, chilli's, wool, threads, badges, crafty items etc.

Anyone can donate to the free stall. You just need to bring the donated item along to Sew & Tell and put it on the stall. Anyone can take these items, but if you do we encourage you to perform a random act of kindness for someone at some stage during the day – like buy a coffee for the person behind you.

THE MAN CAVE
Yes! The Man Cave is back! This is a space for the fellas to respite from the craft and vintage worship taking place in the rest of the hall. There'll be comfy seating and magazines to read.

The first Sew & Tell!

Well, the first Sew & Tell Fair was amazingly awesome! We had the best day ever and it looked like everyone else was having a lovely time too. 

Massive thanks to our stallholders for making and collecting such an incredible assortment of treasures and for creating such beautiful stalls. 

Thanks to the team of volunteers from Heritage House (Bangalow's Museum) for making the tea and cakes. We're so happy that they sold every single one, raising some much needed funds. 

Thanks to the folks at Frankie for donating the posters that we made into bags and to all our mates who helped us out on the day. 

Thanks also to everyone who brought along items for our Free Stall and our Unfinished Business Stall. 

And of course, thanks to all the lovely craft and vintage enthusiasts who turned up to check it all out. We were completely overwhelmed by the number of people that came, from far and wide (Coffs, Port Maquarie, Casino, Brisbane, Tweed Heads etc.) and the incredible feeling of goodwill that filled the hall all throughout the day. 

Sew! It was so much fun that we're going to do it all again towards the end of the year for Christmas. We'll be posting info on here and our Facebook page shortly! Group hugs all round.

What are you selling at Sew & Tell? Paintings and portraits

Q. What is your craft / creative outlet of choice?
A. I paint portraits and paintings in acrylic on ply. I'v done it for years and I love it.

Q. Who is your craft idol?
A. As an artist my idol was my dad, as a crafter it would be my mum - she is an amazing quilter. Plus there are many bloggers who do trashion that I really admire. There is some unreal talent out there.

Q. Who taught you to craft?
A. I was taught to paint and draw by my dad and to sew and cook by my mum.

Q. Who or what inspires you to be creative?
A. My family is all very creative and I'm surrounded by a large group of very creative friends. I create best with music as my companion. And also I come up with a lot of ideas just before bed or while driving in a silent car.

Q. Which talent would you most like to have?
A. I would love to be able to sing.

Q. What is your idea of perfect happiness?
A. Anything with my immediate and extended family and also my friends. But I also love the solitary time I spend while painting.

Q. What is your greatest fear?
A. Loss of family and friends.

Q. What is your current state of mind?
A. Frantic! I'm a bit ADHD so I'm always trying to cram as much as I can in during the day.

Q. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
A. My kids, my marriage and my passion for life and all that comes with it.

Q. What is your most treasured possession?
A. It sounds corny, but love. I recently lost my father and it's amazing how true the saying is "you can't take it with you". I have many material items that I love but to gather around my father's hospital bed and know he was surrounded by love, was an amazing experience.
So definitely the love of family and friends is truly my most treasured possession. And my 20 year old easel from france! hehe

Q. Where is your ideal place to live?
A. Exactly where I am now. I love Australia and I'm so glad to be here. I immigrated from Canada which I also love, but Australia felt like home from the moment the plane touched down.

Q. Favourite holiday destination?
A. Going camping anywhere. Give me a fire and a tent and some water and I'm pretty much happy. I would love to play Survivor!

Q. If money were no object, where would you take off to?
A. Well, I'd take the family and go on an around the world trip. I'd love them to experience Europe, I'd love to spend more time in New York, and I could probably handle some time in a place like the Maldives and Tahiti. And if you send me to Japan or Korea, I'll start eating on arrival and won't stop till they squeeze my fat butt on the plane out.

Q. Can you tell us about your best vintage find?
A. Oh wow. I've got hundreds of amazing vintage items. I recently bought a fantastic vintage Merivale dress for about fifty bucks and I think it's worth about $400! I also have a great handkerchief dress from the 70's that I got at a garage sale in Byron for $10 - I get compliments every time I wear it. I also recovered an old chair that I found under a house - it looks retro and brand new at the same time!

Q. What is your favourite thing to cook for your friends?
A. Lately it's a toss up between Korean BBQ or a sport meal of Buffalo Chicken Wings and Jalapeno popper dip.

Q. What is your motto?
A. Blood is thicker than piss. That was my dad's actually. I think its about family, but it could just be about beer.
